Thermometers
Floating pond thermometer with cord, so that the thermometer can also be easily removed from the water. Read in degrees Fahrenheit and Celsius.
For optimal care of your pond fish it is important to know the water temperature. Fish react to the water temperature and need more food in warmer pond water. The water temperature determines the food intake of fish and the switch from normal fish food to special winter food.
The water temperature also determines the oxygen level in the pond water and whether aeration is needed. Pond water with a higher temperature contains less oxygen. When the fish come to the surface to gasp for air, aeration of the pond ensures sufficient oxygen.
Please note:
- 5 – 10°C: feed fish once a day with winter food
- 10 – 18°C: feed fish daily
- > 18°C: feed fish several times a day
- > 20°C: aerate to prevent oxygen shortage
- < 6 °C: aerate to prevent the pond from freezing over
- < 2 °C: remove thermometer from pond to prevent frost damage
